Treasury

GIB’s Treasury undertakes a wide range of capital market and investment activities for the Bank and its customers, whilst also being responsible for managing the bank’s balance sheet and its funding activities.

Through its well-equipped dealing rooms in Bahrain, London and Riyadh, GIB’s Treasury offers a wide array of products and services to a sophisticated customer base that comprises regional corporations, financial institutions and government entities.

The Bank’s trading and investment teams actively manage risk in diverse global markets that include fixed income and credit, interest rates and currencies, using a wide range of cash and derivative instruments. Treasury’s product specialist teams are constantly engaged in tailoring hedging and investment strategies to suit the unique requirements of each client. GIB has earned a solid reputation with its clients for efficient and timely execution of client strategies.

Treasury’s range of products and services is diverse and is constantly evolving in response to the dynamic market environment. The following are broadly the main areas in which Treasury is currently active:

  • Deposits and placements in all major international and Gulf currencies
  • Euro-commercial paper
  • Spot and forward foreign exchange transactions in all major international and Gulf currencies
  • Fixed and floating rate debt securities, including domestic bonds, Eurobonds and government bonds                                   
  • Structured debt securities
  • Foreign exchange and interest rate derivatives including:
  1. Over-the-counter and exchange-traded currency options
  2. Exchange-traded interest rate futures and options
  3. Interest rate swaps, swaptions, caps, collars and floors

GIB is active in the civil aviation arena. The Bank was joint lead arranger in an Emirates Airlines US$550 million bond issue.
